How To Prepare For The IB Maths Exam

IB math exams are one of the toughest exams there. Students require a fundamental and extensive knowledge and understanding of the entire syllabus if they hope to score decent marks in the exam, let alone get the top percentile.

One of the most common mistakes students make is not reaching out to their tutor and postponing studying the night before the exam. Both these reasons will work against you and make you lose marks.

How To Prepare For The IB Maths Exam

The following are six ways students of any cadre can try and ensure they boost their marks on the exam day of an IB Maths Exam:

1. Gather As Many Online Resources As You Possibly Can

The first thing every student must and should do is drown themselves in resources. The more resources they have, the better prepared they can be for the exam day. Regardless of whether you are an HL or SL student, you will have six key topics.

However, you will notice that while solving the problems, there’s not one basic or even fundamental question. The exam is a high-level test that tries to bring out your understanding of math concepts as much as possible.

That is only possible if you have as much knowledge about the syllabus as possible. And that can only be achieved if you have access to resources online to get access and study anytime, whenever, and wherever.

2. Consistent Studies Have A Better Impact

The answer to scoring is not studying all the time but studying with a constant and consistent effort. Having an allocated time of day to forget all work and responsibilities and concentrate only on studying would be ideal for preparing for the exam.

Also, you should not forget to allocate time for sports and other recreational activities because if you are only spending your energy on studying, you will quickly burn out and feel exhausted.

The only way to overcome your burnout would be to take a big break which would disrupt your schedule and become counterproductive by stressing you out.

Make sure you allow time for both studying and other physical and relaxing activities, and be consistent in maintaining your timetable.

3. Ensure There Are No Distractions

It is a general notion that cell phones have done more harm than good to humans, especially the students. While that notion is debatable, you must put it aside if you feel like your phone disturbs you. While consistency is key, it won’t make much difference if you waste your study time with phones, the internet, social media, family, and even your pets.

4. Stay In Study Mode Throughout

Human beings are the most thinking species of all. As such, our mind is constantly wandering off, and we keep getting distracted by this all the time.

Going for a 30-minute walk before you start studying would be a great idea for you to set the mood straight for studying.

You could also use a specific lamp and or decide to put a timer for 20 – 30 minutes and promise to study hard within that time frame. It is all about dedication and how well you can keep yourself from the biggest distraction of them all – you.

5. Have Regular Reviews of All Notes And Resources

Learning the concepts once and leaving it at that doesn’t even work for elementary math, let alone IB math. You must review everything you study frequently.

It doesn’t matter how frequent and how much reviewing at one go, but it is a must. Just make sure you don’t overdo it and check too much at a time and not too little at the same time. Everyone has their comfort zone, and finding yours could help you.

Rereading all your online resources and making a note of your notes is a good idea to review your subject.

6. Hire A Tutor

A tutor or a mentor would guide you towards your goal better than anyone else.

Having one to teach you all the exam tricks and help you along the process would ultimately work out in only your favor.

While the classroom is essential, having a personal mentor is necessary.

Conclusion

If you follow all the above six ways of studying for your IB Maths exam, there is a very high chance that you can make it big on the exam day. Good luck with your Exam!
