About USC (University of Southern California)

The University of Southern California’s motto in Latin is “Palmam qui meruit ferat” meaning “Let whoever earns the palm bear it”. It is a private school that was established on October 6, 1880.

The University of Southern California was formerly called USC College of Letters, Arts & Sciences but renamed its name and so received a $200 million gift from USC trustees Dana and David Dornsife on March 23, 2011, after which the College was renamed in their honor, following the naming pattern of other professional schools and departments at the University.

Academic affiliations are AAU, NAICU, APRU, and the academic staff is 4,361, the Administrative staff is 15,235, Students are 45,687, Undergraduates are 19,170 and Postgraduates are 26,517 and the University of Southern California is endowed with US$ 5.5 billion, with a budget of $5.3 billion.

The oldest and largest of the USC schools “USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences” (The University of Southern California) grants undergraduates degrees in more than 130 majors and minors across the humanities, social sciences, and natural/physical sciences, and offers doctoral and masters programs in more than 20 fields.

Dornsife College is responsible for the general education program for all USC undergraduates and is responsible for directing about thirty academic departments, various research centers and institutes, and a full-time faculty of more than 6500 undergraduate majors (which is half the total population of USC undergraduates) and 1200 doctoral students.

Ph.D. degree holders are awarded at USC and most master’s degree holders are also awarded according to the jurisdiction of the Graduate School Professional degrees are awarded by each of the respective professional schools.
