The California State University, Northridge’s (CSUN) International & Exchange Student Center (IESC) provides students with the possibility to participate in one of CSUN’s university-affiliated exchange programs, namely the California State University International Programs and the Campus Based Exchange Programs. Through these programs students can take programs outside while still maintaining their CSUN studentship. The IESC also provides support to students who are interested in studying abroad through the China Scholarship Program and the Fulbright Program.

About CSUN

CSUN, an acronym for California State University, Northridge, is a public state university in the Northridge neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It has a total enrollment of over 38,000 undergraduates and at such boasts of having largest undergraduate population as well as the second largest total student body of the 23-campus California State University.

California State University, Northridge was founded first as the Valley satellite campus of California State University, Los Angeles. It later became an independent college in 1958 as San Fernando Valley State College, with major campus master planning and construction. The university adopted its current name of California State University, Northridge in 1972.

CSUN ranks 10th in the U.S. in bachelor’s degrees awarded to underrepresented minority students. It offers varieties of programs that include 134 different bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees in 70 different fields, 3 doctoral degrees (two Doctor of Education degrees and a Doctor of Physical Therapy), and 24 teaching credentials.

Additionally, California State University, Northridge is a vibrant, diverse university community committed to the educational and professional goals of students, and its extensive service to the community.

ADMISSION

CSUN’s nine colleges offer 68 baccalaureate degrees, 58 master’s degrees 2 professional doctorate degrees, 14 teaching credential programs in the field of education and various opportunities in extended learning and other special programs.

With all these programs, there’s definitely something for everyone desiring to pursue a course in CSUN.

Undergraduate Admission

There are requirements that must be me before gaining admission into CSUN. Before we move into these requirements we must not fail to note the first and foremost necessity-age. Age on its own is a requirement. Applicants who are 25 years and above are regarded as adult students.

Adult Students: Adult students may be considered for admission as an adult student if he or she meets all of the following conditions:

  • Possesses a high school diploma (or has established equivalence through either the General Educational Development or California High School Proficiency Examinations).
  • Has not been enrolled in college as a full-time student for more than one term during the past five years.
  • If there has been any college attendance in the last five years, has earned a 2.0 GPA or better in all college work attempted.

Freshman Requirement: Requirements to gain admission for undergraduate studies as a one time fresh man depends on the combination of your high school GPA and either SAT or ACT score. They are listed below. In order to be considered for admission into CSUN a freshman must:

  • Have graduated from high school, have earned a Certificate of General Education Development (GED) or have passed the California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE).
  • Have a qualifiable minimum eligibility index (see Eligibility Index).
  • Have completed, with grades of “C-” or better, each of the courses in the comprehensive pattern of college preparatory subject requirements also known as the “a–g” pattern (see Subject Requirements).

Requirements (Residents and High School Graduate Of CA):

  • ACT: Minimum GPA of 2.00 combined with an ACT score of 30
  • SAT: Minimun GPA of 2.00 combined with a SAT score of 1350

Requirements (Non-Residents and Non-Graduate Of CA):

  • ACT: Minimum GPA of 2.45 combined with an ACT score of 36
  • SAT: Minimun GPA of 2.67 combined with a SAT score of 1600

Note: High School GPA is a strong requirement for admission into CSUN for undergraduate studies. GPA below 2.00 is not accepted for residents while GPA below 2.45 is not accepted for non-residents.

Graduate Admission

Graduate students include those pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree. California State University, Northridge (CSUN) offers 84 master’s degree options and three doctorate options. Applicants wll be considered for admission if they meet the requirements for both their individual department and the university.

University Requirement:

  • Have a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution;
  • Be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended;
  • Have attained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 in all units attempted as an undergraduate, independent of when the degree was granted; or,
  • Have attained a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in the last 60 semester/90 quarter units attempted from all post-secondary institutions attended. The entire semester or quarter in which the 60/90 units began will be used in the calculation; or,
  • Hold an acceptable post-baccalaureate degree earned at a regionally accredited institution and:
  • Have attained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 in all units attempted as an undergraduate, or
  • Have attained a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in the last 60 semester/90 quarter units attempted from all post-secondary institutions attended.

Department Requirement: Visit the departments of your choice and review their standards, professional and personal to see if you meet up to them.

Admission Requirements For International Students

The CSU uses separate requirements and application filing dates in the admission of “foreign students. Some important things are considered before admission is given such as English proficiency, Academic records and the financial enablement to pursue the course in CSUN.

Academic Records

International students are required to summit the following documents which represents their individual academic results.

Undergraduate:

  • Secondary school records.
  • Yearly records from each postsecondary college or university attended (if any), indicating the number of hours per semester or per year devoted to each course and the grades received.

Graduate:

  • Yearly records from each postsecondary college or university attended (if any), indicating the number of hours per semester or per year devoted to each course and the grades received.
  • Documents that confirm awarding of the degree, certificate, or diploma with the title and date (if the degree has already been awarded).

English Language Requirement

All Undergraduates whose native language is not English Language , who have not attended a high school for at least three years full time where English is a principal language are required to take an internet based proficiency test TOEFL iBT. The are required to score at least 61 in the TOEFL iBT.

All graduate and post-baccalaureate international applicants must make a minimum score of 79 in TOEFL iBT.

Financial Stamina

All international student applicants entering the U.S. on the F-1 or J-1 student or exchange visitor visa must provide evidence of sufficient funds available for their studies.
